Northwestern Outhits Central Michigan in Series Finale

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern outhit Central Michigan in the series finale with eight knocks to CMU's seven, but it was not enough as the Wildcats dropped the series finale,7-5, Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.
Josh Levy (1-1) started on the mound for the Wildcats and went 3.0 innings and match a career-high five strikeouts. Levy held Central Michigan to a pair of runs on two hits, but was credited with the loss.
Michael Brettell picked up the win for Central Michigan after tossing 6.0 innings and only allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out six.
Northwestern struck first on Sunday when Jake Schieber's single to right field brought home Connor Lind, who was on second base after a double. Lind was the lone Northwestern player to tally multiple hits in the game.
The Chippewas answered the bell in the following inning with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead, which they would not surrender for the remainder of the game.
With the Wildcats trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Dunn's double down the right field line scored Schieber and Charlie Maxwell to bring NU within a run, 4-3. CMU scored three runs, two of them unearned, in the top of the sixth to take a 7-3 lead.
Northwestern's best chance to mount a comeback came in the bottom of the eighth inning when Matt Hopfner and Alex Erro led off the frame with singles and Joe Hoscheit doubled in the following at-bat to cut into CMU's lead, 7-5. The Chippewas were able to escape the rest of inning without giving up a run.
Northwestern will return to action on Tuesday, March 21 for a 3 p.m. CT game against UIC.
