EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern women's swimming and diving team returns to the pool this weekend, taking on Wisconsin at the Norris Aquatics Center. The Big Ten match-up is set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 11.
Admission to the events at the Norris Aquatics Center are free, and fans are encouraged to park in the North Garage of the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion.
In their last meet, the Wildcats posted two commanding victories over local foes, defeating University of Chicago 188-100, and taking down UIC 168-125. The 'Cats tallied ten individual victories across the meet, with highlight performances coming from sophomore Krystal Lara, senior Mary Warren, first-year Calypso Sheridan, and junior diver Olivia Rosendahl.
Lara started off the solo event wins with a victory in the 200 free, setting a new season-best record for herself. She followed that performance with another win in the 100 fly. After contributing to the team's 200 medley relay win, Sheridan went on to grab her own victory in the 100 breast, and Warren took the top spot in the 50 free for the fourth time in four meets. Rosendahl continued to dominate the diving boards, and won both the 3-meter and 1-meter events, taking her to five wins in the season so far.
Wisconsin faces both Minnesota and Green Bay before travelling to Northwestern. In their most recent event, the Badgers topped Penn State, but fell to Michigan and Minnesota in a two-day quad dual. Sophomore Beata Nelson stands as the team's top performer, with five solo event wins so far in the season. Nelson also anchors a very successful 200 medley relay team.
In the last two meet-ups between the Wildcats and the Badgers, Wisconsin came out with the victories. At both duals, Warren took home the win in the 50 free, and Rosendahl swept the boards in 2015, with a win in the 1- and 3-meter events.
For their dominance in the pool this past week, two Wildcats were awarded Big Ten weekly accolades. For the second consecutive week, the Big Ten honored Rosendahl with Diver of the Week. Sheridan was named Co-Freshman of the Week, her first league recognition of her collegiate career.
