MEET NOTES (PDF)

EVANSTON, Ill. —
After nearly a month off from competitive action, the women's swimming and diving squad will travel to Notre Dame for their last away dual on January 16. The events will begin at 11 a.m. CT.

Viewers will be able to watch the action on WatchND.

LAST TIME OUT
In mid-December, the Wildcats defeated every team at the FAU FUN Invite in Boca Raton, Florida, in dominating fashion. Northwestern finished in first place in 12 out of the 14 events that they competed in. Both Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College) and Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) took home first place finishes in every event they participated in.

In the 200 free, Aja Malone (Acworth, Ga./Allatoona) recorded a season-high with her third-place swim of 1:55.05. As well, Maddy Sims (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove) swam a first-place time of 56.80 in the 100 fly.

Even more 'Cats added on with first place finishes. Lauren Abruzzo (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) turned in a 5:02.06 in the 1,000 free and Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet) turned in a number-one finish with her time of 26.09 in the 50 fly. In a unique 100 IM reverse — which ended with the butterfly stroke — Alex Grimes (Los Gatos, Calif./Los Gatos) won with a first-place time of 59.49, which was more than a second better than the next-closest competitor.

WINNER, WINNER
Following the performance in South Florida, the #B1GCats earned a pair of Big Ten weekly honors. After Winsnes' four-first place day, the junior won NU's first Swimmer of the Week nod since 2010. With a first-place finish and a pair of third-place finishes at FAU, Grimes became the second NU swimmer to win Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart), who has twice won the honor.

COUNT 'EM
So far this season, the Wildcats have earned six NCAA 'B' cuts: Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) in the 50 free, Winsnes in the 100 free and 200 free, Locke in the 100 back and 200 back, and Melissa Postoll (Acworth, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) in the 200 back.

SCOUTING THE IRISH
Notre Dame's squad is undefeated so far this season at home at the Rolfs Aquatic Center, but the Wildcats defeated the Fighting Irish last season by a score of 154-146. They are led by junior Catherine Mulquin, who has notched 'B' cuts in the 50 free and the 100 back, freshman Alice Treuth, with 'B' cuts in the 100 and 200 back, and freshman Nicole Smith, who has 'B' cuts in the 100 fly, 200 fly, and 400 IM.
