Northwestern Edges Missouri State in Five-Set Thriller

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Northwestern erased a 2-1 deficit to defeat Missouri State in five thrilling sets in the finale of the Holiday Inn University Plaza Invitational on Saturday.
The Wildcats won the first set, 25-18, but dropped the next two before rallying to win the fourth, 25-23. Chicago's Big Ten Team took care of business in the fifth set, winning 15-7.
Saturday's match marked the first five-setter the Wildcats have played in 2015.
Taylor Tashima made it three straight double-doubles with a 57 assist, 15 dig performance. The sophomore also added four kills to help the Northwestern cause.
Symone Abbott, Kayla Morin and Maddie Slater all tallied double-digit kills for the Wildcats. Abbott led Northwestern with 19, while Morin followed with 18. Slater added 15 and hit .452 during the match.
Caroline Niedospial continued her climb up the Northwestern ranks with 26 digs on Saturday. Niedospial is now third with 1,449 digs after passing Janine Makar (1985-88).
Slater and Niedospial were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
Northwestern makes its home debut next weekend with the Wildcat Challenge Sept. 18-20. The Wildcats welcome Lipscomb and Milwaukee to Evanston for the first matches at Welsh-Ryan Arena in 2015.
