TAMPA, Fla. -- No. 27 Northwestern started its spring break road trip in style Tuesday afternoon as it rolled to a 7-0 win over host USF.

NU improves to 7-4 overall with the victory while the Bulls fall to 2-12.

The Wildcats surged out to an early advantage by cruising to the double point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The pairing of Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner got things started at No. 1 by finishing first with an 8-3 victory over Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez. Meanwhile, Alex Chatt and Lok Sze Leung had no trouble with Hailey Grillo and Laura Argente Escamilla at No. 3, rolling to an 8-1 win.

Northwestern continued to dominate in singles play as all six Wildcats in the lineup won their first set.

Brooke Rischbieth was the first Wildcat to clinch a victory as she dominated Laura Argente Escamilla at No. 6 to the tune of a 6-1, 6-1 triumph. Minutes later, Leung closed out her victory at No. 4 over Juliana Cardoso, 6-2, 6-1, pulling NU within one point of the match win.

Competing at the top spot in Northwestern's singles lineup for the first time in her career, Larner had the honor of clinching the match for the 'Cats. The freshman had no issues with Bessonova in notching a 6-2, 6-0 win.

Barnett kept things rolling by taking down Jessica Cortes Chaves at No. 2 while freshman Rheeya Doshi took care of Grillo at No. 5, earning a 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Chatt closed out the match and the sweep by earning the third victory by a Northwestern freshman, taking down Martinez 6-3,

Northwestern returns to Big Ten play on the road Saturday as it travels to Ann Arbor to face 12th-ranked Michigan. First serve is set for 11 a.m. Central time.
