In the Polls
• Jason Tsirtsis is ranked third at 149 lbs. by InterMat, The Open Mat, FloWrestling and the NWCA Coaches Poll this week.
• Tsirtsis has won consecutive Big Ten titles, is a two-time All-American and won the 2014 national championship at 149 lbs.
A Pinning Machine
• Dominick Malone has been a pinning machine so far this season, winning six of his nine matches by fall.
• All of Malone's falls have come in the first period. His fastest was a 45 second pin of teammate Ian Cramer at the Michigan State Open on Nov. 15. He has one other pin in less than a minute - a 56 second win over Scott Stevens of Franklin & Marshall in the Wildcats 30-18 win at the Grapple at the Garden.
• Malone has won eight matches in a row, including five by fall and two by tech fall. His closest match in that span was a 10-3 decision over Drexel's David Pearce at Madison Square Garden.
Only the Best at Welsh-Ryan
• Northwestern has five home duals during the 2015-16 season and all of them are against teams currently ranked. Fans will have the opportunity to see the Wildcats take on No. 7 Ohio State (Dec. 18), No. 2 Iowa (Jan. 10), No. 1 Penn State (Jan. 17), No. 21 Minnesota (Feb. 5) and No. 25 Duke (Feb. 19).
Biggest Midlands Ever
• The 53rd annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships is going to be something special. 42 teams and more than 400 competitors are set to converge upon Welsh-Ryan Arena on Dec. 29-30. The two-day, all-day event will feature some of the best teams and wrestlers in the country. Nine Big Ten programs and 10 ranked teams overall will be in attendance.
• Such a deep field will require 10 mats on Day 1. Six will be in the main arena, while four mats will be in the fieldhouse. Day 2 will be held entirely in the main arena with the finals set for 8 p.m. on Dec. 30.
• The championship round of the 53rd Midlands will be televised live by the Big Ten Network beginning at 8 p.m. The championship bouts will be held on the middle mat, while the third and fifth-place matches will take place on either side.
