COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Northwestern notched seven wins Saturday, including career victory No. 1,200 for head coach Laurie Schiller, at the Western Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Wildcats entered the day with a 12-0 record in dual matches this season, while Schiller began the day with 1,195 career victories in his 38th season as the head coach of the program.

The first test of the day came against Brandeis, one that Northwestern passed with flying colors. The Wildcats won by an overall score of 22-5 with the epée and sabre squads leading the way with eight victories apiece. Individually, Mandeep Bhinder and Juliana Barrett both went undefeated in round one in epée, while Alisha Gomez-Shah won all three of her sabre bouts against the Judges.

NU took on UC San Diego in round two Saturday. Sabre won eight of nine bouts for the second round in a row with newcomer Emine Yücel and sophomore Ania Parzecki notching two wins apiece. The Wildcats won four of the first six bouts in epée, but ultimately fell, 5-4. The foilists helped the 'Cats secure an overall 19-8 triumph by posting a 7-2 record. Stephanie Chan won three bouts against the Tritons.

In round three the Wildcats went up against the hosts from Air Force. Northwestern was able to fence its way to another double-digit triumph, this time, 20-7. Kaitlyn Wallace (epée), Kaila Budofsky (foil) and Gomez-Shah each posted three victories in the third round Saturday.

The Wildcats ran into little opposition in the following segment against the Florida Gators, winning 26-1. In epée, Helen Foster and Anna Tolley posted three-bout sweeps.

By winning the first four matches of the day, Schiller needed a win in round five against Stanford to secure number 1,200 of his illustrious career. The 'Cats delivered in emphatic fashion by topping the Cardinal, 20-7. Sabre won six-of-nine bouts, while epée and foil both won seven times. Bhinder was the lone NU fencer to finish unblemished against Stanford.

Northwestern clobbered Cal Tech, 26-1, with Jen Yamin, Charlotte Sands and senior Mary Spohn combining to go a perfect 9-0 before facing Duke in the final match of the day.

Though they came closer than any other team to toppling the 'Cats Saturday, the Blue Devils still lost by nine, 18-9. Yamin and Budofsky won three times each as the foil squad chipped in in a big way with eight wins. Both epée and sabre won 5-4.

With seven wins Saturday, Northwestern improves to 19-0 overall this season.

Northwestern faces a pair of tough tests next weekend on the east coast. The Wildcats will be in Philadelphia on Saturday, Jan. 24 for a set of duals at Penn before visiting the Big Apple the following day for the New York Duals.
