MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Northwestern swimmers competed during the first day of the NCAA Championships Thursday in Minneapolis, two each in the 500 free and the 50 free.

Though no Wildcats advanced to Thursday night's finals session, there still are plenty of events to go for NU, including one relay during both Friday and Saturday's schedule.

Freshman Kassia Shishkoff (Raleigh, N.C./St. David's School) turned in the Wildcats' best finish of the day with a 33rd-place time of 4:49.31 in the 500 free. Classmate Jenn Kocsis (Omaha, Neb./Marian) also was in the event, swimming a time of 4:57.15.

In the 50 free, junior Andrea Hupman (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) was NU's top finisher with a time of 23.06 in the prelims. Freshman Emily Wong (Nepean, Ontario/St. Joseph's) also competed in the event, turning in a time of 23.22.

Northwestern returns to action tomorrow, Friday, March 9, with four Wildcats competing in three individual events. NU's 12th-seeded 800 free relay will hit the pool during Friday night's finals session.
