Wildcats In Ninth At Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Through two days of competition at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind., Northwestern is currently in ninth place with 83 points.
The Wildcats trail Illinois by two points for eighth place while Penn State leads the competition with 238 points. Ohio State is in tenth right behind NU with a score of 80.
Freshman Andrea Hupman registered Northwestern best finish Thursday, capturing sixth in the 50 free with a finals time of 23.09. She qualified for the championship heat with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 23.04 in the prelims. That time knocked .41 seconds off her personal best and seed time.
Also setting personal best times in the 50 free for NU were Lori Schwanhausser with a 23.94, Kristen Kilroy with a 24.35 and Shuyan Phua with a 24.93. Kilroy's time was nearly two seconds better than her previous best.
Amy Mueller captured 15th place and points for Northwestern in the 500 free with a time of 4:55.60 in the finals. She set a personal best in the prelims with a time of 4:55.50.
Katie Paglini and Christy Olin both scored in the 200 IM, with Paglini finishing 12th in 2:05.03 and Olin placing 14th in 2:06.04.
The 'Cats 200 free relay earned seventh place and an NCAA 'B' time with a 1:32.47.
Two relays were held on Wednesday's opening night. Northwestern placed ninth with a 1:43.74 in the 200 medley relay. The Wildcats also finished ninth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:25.43.
