COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Northwestern lost its second consecutive decision Saturday, falling 3-1 to American University in a neutral site game in College Park, Md.
Candice Cooper (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) led the Wildcats with six shots on goal, scoring NU's only goal of the game on a penalty corner. Morgan Kuhn (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) and Ellen Schlafly (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS) assisted on the score.
As happened in matches against James Madison and Fairfield, NU gave up an early goal in the fourth minute, but came back when Cooper equalized in the eighth minute, and NU was able to keep it tied into the half.
American (3-2) scored twice in the second half, outshooting NU 6-2 in the frame, to take and keep the lead.
Northwestern (4-2) returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 12, with a noon Central time game against Maryland.
