EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's 58th-ranked men's tennis team (4-2, 0-1 Big Ten) took the momentum gained from last night's victory over No. 25 Pepperdine and ran with it in its 6-1 victory over the 73rd-ranked Northern Illinois Huskies (1-2, 0-0 MAC).

Less than 24 hours after losing their first doubles point of the season against Pepperdine, the 'Cats swept all three of their doubles matches against the Huskies. Christian Tempke (Wentorf, Germany/Gymnasium Lohbrugge) and Adam Schaechterle (Oconomowoc, Wisc./Kettle Moraine) got things rolling with an 8-4 win over Jack Komar and Stephen Guntly at No. 3. The two have won all of their doubles matches together this season.

The Wildcats won the doubles point as Tommy Hanus (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) and Justin Hoeveler (Ross, Calif./The Branson School) defeated Aaron Forsberg and Willy Gali at No. 2. Hoeveler clinched the match and the doubles point with a sizzling overhead winner down the middle.

"We felt confident (in doubles)," head coach Paul Torricelli said. "We were on guard for a letdown after last night. We knew it would be a battle today."

Ahmed Wahla (Lahore, Pakistan/Lahore American School) kept the winning ways going in singles action with his 6-2, 6-1 win over Guntly at No. 6. The match marks the senior's first action at home this season.

Willy Lock (Lima, Peru/Markham College) got the second singles win of the day for NU, with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Forsberg. The clinching match ended up being Hanus' match against Erick Martinez. The match had numerous ups and downs in the first set, but the second set was an entirely different story, and Hanus pulled off a 7-6, 6-0 victory.

"The difference in the first and second set was loosening up and letting the balls go," said Hanus. "I was a little tight in the first set."

The Wildcats will face Ball State at 6 p.m. Feb. 6 at Combe Tennis Center.
