EVANSTON, Ill. - After 75:48 of scoreless field hockey, Ohio State's Vanessa Immordino gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 victory with a penalty stroke goal in overtime at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex.

The stroke was awarded to the Buckeyes (6-3-0, 1-0-0) when the head official whistled NU's Ellen Schlafly for a high stick inside the circle.

Immordino's ensuing shot sailed over the right shoulder of Northwestern goalkeeper Sherri-Anne Nyberg and into the back of the goal, handing the Wildcats' their second loss in the Big Ten.

Neither team was able to generate much offense leading up to the game-winner in overtime. Northwestern could only get one shot off in the second half, while their stingy defense held Ohio State to just two.

Despite the outcome Northwestern head coach Marisa Didio was happy with the way her team played and felt as though the high-stick penalty was a poor call.

"I thought we played well in both halves," Didio said. "There really wasn't any point in the match where I felt we had a lull in momentum."

"This is a tough one to swallow because we played so well all game and the outcome is decided by a call. It's just frustrating," she added.

This is the second consecutive match the Wildcats have been shut out. Michigan blanked the 'Cats, 3-0 on Friday.

Northwestern (4-5-0, 0-2-0) is back in action Friday, Oct., 3 when they take on league foe Michigan State in East Lansing.
