Northwestern Sweeps Cougars At Wildcat Classic, 3-0

EVANSTON, Ill. - All-America candidate Erika Lange (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) recorded a career-high hitting percentage of .733, as she led the Northwestern volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-16, 30-15, 30-24) victory against Chicago State. The Wildcats improved their record to 9-2 on the season, while extending their current winning streak to nine. The Cougars' record falls to 1-9.
"I thought our players executed well against Chicago State," said head coach Keylor Chan. "Chicago State came out with a lot of excitement and energy, but we did a good job containing Stacey Cole, who was their go-to player, which helped us win this match."
Senior middle blocker Lange led the team with 11 kills, three digs, four block assists and a .733 hitting percentage. All-Big Ten candidate Iwona Lodzik (Tarnobrzeg, Poland/Tarnobrzeg) added 16 kills, two service aces, seven digs, three block assists and a .444 hitting percentage. Junior outside hitter Jill Buschur (New Bremen, Ohio/New Bremen) looked impressive, notching eight kills, four service aces, four block assists and a hitting percentage of .500 against the Cougars.
Stacey Cole was the leader for the Cougars, recording 13 kills, four service aces, three digs and one solo block. Vanessa Nicholson had 21 assists to lead Chicago State in that statistical category.
The Wildcats will return to action this evening at 7 p.m., when Northwestern hosts the Florida Gators. The Gators take on North Carolina at noon. Both matches are scheduled to be held at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
"We are as prepared as we can be for Florida," said Chan "We just have to go out and execute our game plan to defeat the Gators."
