Northwestern fell to Michigan 2-1 in Ann Arbor Friday. The Wildcats fall to 5-5-4 overall and 0-3-1 in the Big Ten.
Despite clear improvements, NU is still searching for its first conference victory under head coach Tim Lenahan.
Michigan's Adam Bruh did his part to keep the 'Cats from breaking into the win column. He put the Wolverines on the board in the 23rd minute when he capitalized on a Northwestern turnover and beat goalkeeper Brian Heckenbach from the left side to give Michigan a 1-0.
The Wildcats rallied to tie the contest when freshman Brad North tallied his first collegiate goal at 42:45, taking a pass from Gerardo Alvarez and drilling a bicycle kick past Michigan goalie Peter Dzubay to make it a 1-1.
NU hoped to carry momentum from North's goal into halftime, but Bruh struck again for Michigan less than two minutes later, scoring the game-winner at 44:23.
Neither team was able to generate much offense in the second half, and the Wolverines held on the the 2-1 lead to claim the victory.
Heckenbach stopped three shots for the 'Cats while Dzubay made one save for Michigan.
Northwestern is back in action Sunday when it takes on nonconference foe IPFW in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
