COLUMBUS, Ohio - One thing is certain about the Northwestern soccer season: they have been playing a ton of extra soccer. For the fifth time this year, the Wildcats have played an extra two frames and ended up with a tie, as NU fought to a 1-1 draw with Ohio State in Columbus.
Northwestern, who moves to 6-6-5 on the year and 0-3-2 in the Big Ten, fell behind late in the first half when Ohio State's Taylor Korpieski took a pass from Kevin Nugent and headed the ball into the net, giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
Will Nicholas evened the score at 1-1 when he took a Gerardo Alvarez pass off a corner kick and beat OSU's Ray Burse Jr. at 63:23.
Neither team was able to put the ball into the net in the remaining minutes of regulation or the two overtime periods.
Freshman Justin Pines made the first start of his career in goal for the Wildcats. He saved six shots while Burse Jr. made three stops for Ohio State.
NU is back in action Sunday, Nov. 2 when they take on Wisconsin in the final regular season game. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at the Leonard B. Thomas Sports Complex.
