EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's tennis team defeated intrastate rival Illinois, 7-0, to remain unbeaten in Big Ten play Saturday afternoon. NU is now 11-4 overall, 5-0 in conference. The Fighting Illini dropped to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten.

The Wildcats began the day with a sweep of doubles, winning at each spot, 8-1, for the first point of the match.

In singles play, the Wildcats won four of the six matches in straight sets. At No. 1, Marine Piriou pulled out a win, with a 10-3 tie breaker over Jennifer McGaffigan (6-2, 4-6, 10-3). Jessica Rush got off to a slow start, falling to Eva Choe 6-2 in the first set at No. 3, but rallied to a victory, winning 6-1, 6-0 to close out the match.

The 'Cats are back in action on March 27 when they travel to Pepperdine.
