No. 13 Wildcats Drop Close Match to Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. - The 13th-ranked Wildcat women's tennis team was edged by Pepperdine, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 11-5 on the season as Pepperdine improved to 5-11.
The Wildcats swept all three doubles matches for the first point, but the Waves picked up their intensity to claim four of the six singles matches.
Lia Jackson and Jessica Rush were the lone singles winners for the 'Cats. Jackson posted a 6-4, 6-4, win over Alexsandra Kujawska. No. 63 Rush came from behind to win at No. 3. Rush was down after the first set (6-3), but rebounded to take the final two (6-4, 6-3) and to tie the match at three.
It came down to No. 5 singles, where two freshmen battled it out, with the winner claiming the match. NU's Andrea Yung won the first set (6-4), but fell in the second (6-4) to force a third and deciding set with Pepperdine's Veronika Koksova. In the third set, Yung came from behind to force a tiebreaker, taking an early 3-0 lead, Koksova fought back and took at 6-5 lead and continued to hold off Yung for the 7-6(6) win.
The Wildcats will play Harvard, Thursday afternoon to complete their spring break trip. Match time is set for 2 p.m. CDT.
