Women's Swimming Loses to Notre Dame, 154-146

Evanston, Ill. - The No. 23 Northwestern women's swimming and diving team dropped a squeaker Thursday to Notre Dame, 154-146, at the Norris Aquatics Center. Northwestern is now 2-6 overall.
The Wildcats came away with two relay victories and six individual titles, but it was not enough to defeat the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame won both diving events and six swimming events to edge out the win.
Despite the team outcome, many individuals had outstanding meets. Diver Kristin Ward (Oakton, Va./St. Stephens & St. Agnes) posted NCAA diving zone qualifying scores in the 1-meter (279 points), and 3-meter competition (298.35).
Freshman Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) extended her unbeaten streak in the 200 breast (2:17.31) to six straight and also took home top honors in the 100 breast (1:04.46) for the fourth time this season.
Another freshman making a splash was Erin Swenson (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central), who picked up wins in the 100 (51.96) and 200 (1:53.28) freestyle. Her 100 time was a team best for the season.
NU swept the butterfly events, with junior Merritt Adams (Norcross, Ga./The Lovett School) winning the 100 and sophomore Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial) taking the 200.
The Wildcats wrap up their dual season on Saturday at 2 p.m., as they host No. 14 Michigan at the Norris Aquatic Center.
