Women's Swimming Defeats No. 14 Michigan, 157-143

Evanston, Ill. - The No. 23 Northwestern women's swimming and diving team capped off their dual season with a thrilling upset of No. 14 Michigan, Saturday at Norris Aquatics Center. For the second time this season a meet came down to the last relay. NU placed first and third in the 200 freestyle relay to secure the 157-143 win. In all, the Wildcats picked up eleven first place finishes, including both relays.
Katie Simmons (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) continued to dominate in the breastroke by finishing first in both the 100 (1:04.63) and 200 (2:17.09) breast. Simmons also swam the second leg of the first-place 200 medley relay, which posted a season top time of 1:45.51.
Sophomore Rachel Johnson (Champaign, Ill./Centennial)was also a multi-event winner with victories in the 400 IM (4:24.39) and 200 butterfly (2:02.26).
Senior captains Tashy Bohm (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) and Krista Puttler (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou) were honored during the meet, as they swam their last races at Norris Aquatics Center. Bohm won the 200 backstroke (2:17.09) and was a member of both third-place relay teams. Putler swam in the breastroke events for the `Cats.
The Wildcats are off until the Big Ten Championships, which will be held February 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind.
