Men's Soccer Opens Campaign With 6-1 Loss

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern men's soccer team opened the 2000 campaign with a 6-1 loss to Eastern Illinois at Lakeside Field in Charleston, Ill. The lone goal for the `Cats was scored by Jun Kim with the assist from Grant Trimble when he beat goalie Ryan Waguespack in the lower right corner. Both Trimble and Kim led Northwestern with two shots on goal apiece.
It took only 19 seconds for Eastern Illinois to start the scoring when Mike Murphy took a shot from ten yards out to beat goalkeeper Chris Berlin. The 19 second goal is the tenth-fastest goal scored in NCAA soccer according to the 1999 NCAA Records Book. Eastern went on to take a 4-0 halftime lead, scoring two more in the second half to win 6-1.
