EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's basketball team suffered an offensive shutdown on Sunday afternoon, and the result was a 61-35 loss to Ohio State in Columbus.
The loss dropped the Wildcats to 6-17 (3-10 Big Ten), while OSU improved to 12-10 (5-7 Big Ten).
NU was in the game for most of the first half, and when Leslie Schock drained a 3-pointer with 4:30 left the Buckeye lead was just three at 19-16. However, Ohio State scored the next 12 points, and only a pair of free throws from Tami Sears with six seconds left stopped the run as the Buckeyes took a 31-18 lead into the locker room.
OSU then started the second half with a 12-4 run, upping the advantage to 43-22, and cruised from there.
Schock led the Wildcats in scoring with nine points, while Sears scored eight points and snared a game-high 12 rebounds. As a team, NU outrebounded Ohio State, 33-21.
Ohio State was led by Tomeka Brown, who had 20 points, and LaToya Turner's 10 points.
Northwestern will be back in action on Thursday night, hosting Minnesota at 7 p.m. in Welsh-Ryan Arena.
