WHY NORTHWESTERN?
I chose Northwestern because I wanted to challenge myself academically and athletically. Neither classes nor workouts are easy here, but I am surrounded by people who are equally passionate about learning and achieving big goals in athletics (both on the course like qualifying for NCAA nationals, and and off, like creating a space for women and non-binary athletes to thrive in athletics).

GET TO KNOW FIONA OFF THE COURSE:
What are you studying? Any career goals? Economics and environmental policy and culture. I hope one day to work on policy that will push for environmental justice.
What do you love most about Northwestern Cross Country? The energy of the team. Everyone here is so gritty and tough, but also so caring. There’s a really strong community here of people who will support each other through everything. Cross country is hard, there’s no other way to say it, but working hard together means that the relationships built here are stronger than an ordinary friendship.
Favorite memory of Northwestern Cross Country? Travel trips are always extremely fun. Racing is like Christmas to this team and getting to travel to places like Boston and Los Angeles with the whole team amped up and excited is so much fun. It’s both an incredible bonding experience and a chance to put ourselves in competitive meets where we can push ourselves towards PRs and team victories.
What do you love about running? Running is a brilliant way to let go of the worries of everyday life and reconnect with yourself. The self-awareness that being a cross country athlete has taught me couldn’t come anywhere else. I also love the community that is has helped me to find.
What hobbies do you enjoy? I enjoy crocheting quite a bit, especially when that involves making gifts for friends. Other than that I like to read and boulder.
