Martin C. Riessen (Tennis and Basketball, 1962-64)
As Northwestern's top-ranked tennis player, Riessen won the Big Ten singles and doubles titles for three years starting in 1962, making him NU's only three-time winner. He also reached the NCAA singles finals three years in a row and was successful as a professional tennis player. A two-sport athlete, Riessen also started as guard on the basketball team for three straight years.
Riessen played tennis professionally after graduating from Northwestern, and he was ranked No. 11 in singles in the ATP Rankings in September 1974, his career high. He also won seven major mixed titles and he won two men's doubles grand slams. Riessen is also a member of the United States Tennis Association/Midwest Hall of Fame.
