William F. Porter II ( Track, 1946-48)
Porter is one of greatest hurdlers in Big Ten history. He equaled American records in the low and high hurdles in 1948, and won both the low and the high events later in the year at the Big Ten outdoor championship.
Porter climaxed his track career by winning the 110-meter hurdles in record time at the 1948 Olympic Games, becoming the only NU male athlete to win an Olympic title. He either broke or tied world hurdle record at all distances from 60 to 330 yards. At the conclusion of his career, he held all NU hurdle records, several of which still stand.
