Ralph Lupton (Wrestling, 1928-29)
One of Northwestern's early wrestling greats, Lupton starred for the Wildcats in the late 1920s. He won Big Ten championships in 1928 and 1929, and earned All-American honors in 1928 at 125 pounds while becoming the school's first national champion.
Lupton became a lawyer after graduating from Northwestern Law School, then moved to California, where he became a judge until 1969. He also enjoyed mountain climbing. Today, Northwestern presents an annual award in Lupton's memory, the Lupton Award. The award is given to the Wildcat who registers the most net takedowns in a season.
