Four Different 'Cats Homer in Midweek Victory over Panthers

4/28/2026 8:37:00 PM | Baseball

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern homered four times en route to a 10-8 victory over Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon at Miller Park. NU (17-24-1, 5-16 Big Ten) extended its unbeaten streak in home non-conference games to nine, dating back to last season.

OF Jack Lausch and INF Ryan Kucherak both slugged their team-high 10th home runs of the season in the fifth inning of the win.

INF Owen McElfatrick put Northwestern in front with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. McElfatrick now holds sole possession of second place in program history with 32 career home runs.

Milwaukee (15-26, 10-8 Horizon) responded with a two-run home run in the top of the third to take the lead.

The 'Cats went back in front in the bottom of the third, plating a pair on sacrifice flies by INF Noah Ruiz and Barron to take a 3-2 lead.

The Panthers evened the game in the top of the fifth on an RBI double, but LHP Alex Grant stranded the bases loaded to preserve the tie. NU went back ahead, plating a pair in the bottom of the fifth to go back in front. Milwaukee continued to chip away, cutting the NU lead to 5-4 on a solo home run in the top of the sixth.

The Wildcats slugged three homers in the bottom of the sixth to stretch its lead to six. Lausch crushed a two-run homer to right to score McElfatrick, Kucherak homered one batter later to tack on and INF Nick Barron mashed a two-run homer later in the frame to extend NU's lead to 10-4.

Milwaukee added four runs in the top of the seventh, but RHP Tommy Bridges (2-0) entered in relief to limit the damage. Bridges tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, surrendering four hits to earn the win. RHP Garrett Shearer (1) earned his first save of the season, retiring the Panthers in order in the ninth.

Northwestern resumes Big Ten play this weekend with a three-game series against Indiana. The Wildcats and Hoosiers will open the series at Wrigley Field on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT. The series will shift back to Miller Park, with Saturday's game set for 2 p.m. CT and Sunday's series finale slated for 1 p.m. CT.
