EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern University head wrestling coach Matt Storniolo has announced the addition of Marcus Coleman to the Wildcat coaching staff. Coleman, a two-time NCAA All-American and five-time NCAA Qualifier, will serve as an assistant coach after a decorated collegiate career at Iowa State and recent coaching experience at Davidson College.

"I am thrilled to welcome Marcus to Evanston," said Storniolo. "He has been phenomenal since he came on board last month and has made an immediate impact, not just with our upper weights, but with the rest of the team and staff as well. Marcus checks all the boxes. He is a great technician, workout partner, and most importantly, a role model for our young men. I know I speak for everyone in our Wildcat Wrestling family when I say we got a great one."

One of the most accomplished wrestlers in Iowa State history, Coleman finished his Cyclone career with a 99–42 record, earning five NCAA Championship appearances and All-American honors in both 2022 and 2023. Known for his aggressive style, he consistently led his teams in falls and bonus-point victories, finishing multiple seasons among national leaders in pins at his weight class.

In his final season, he capped his career with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships and a runner-up showing at the Big 12 Championships, becoming just the second wrestler in Iowa State program history to qualify for five NCAA Championships.

During the 2022-23 campaign, Coleman posted a 24–5 record and earned Big 12 Wrestler of the Week and NCAA Wrestler of the Week honors after handing Penn State's Aaron Brooks his lone loss of the season. He collected 11 bonus-point victories and recorded 15 wins over ranked opponents, consistently competing against the nation's best at 184 and 197 pounds.

Coleman earned his first All-American distinction in 2022 with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Championships, becoming Iowa State's first All-American at 184 pounds since 2008. That season, he compiled a 22–6 overall record and finished third at the Big 12 Championships, adding multiple wins over top-30 opponents.

Prior to joining the Wildcats, Coleman began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Davidson College following his graduation from Iowa State in 2023, gaining valuable experience in athlete development and program operations

A native of Ames, Iowa, Coleman was a three-time Iowa High School state champion and one of the nation's top recruits in the class of 2017. He earned national recognition at the cadet and junior levels, including a Junior National Folkstyle title and a Fargo runner-up finish. Coleman graduated from Iowa State with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, with a minor in family services.
