EVANSTON, Ill. – After two clean sheets to start her collegiate career, first-year Northwestern goalkeeper Nyamma Nelson was named the Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Nelson is the first NU player to collect a Big Ten Player of the Week nod since Reiley Fitzpatrick (goalkeeper) and Emma Phillips (defender) received Big Ten weekly honors on Sept. 10, 2024.

The West Linn, Ore., native did not allow any goals and recorded 10 saves in the Wildcats' shutout wins over Loyola Chicago and Illinois State last week to start the 2025 campaign. She is the only first-year goalkeeper in the country with two shutouts on the season and the first first-year in program history to begin her career with consecutive shutouts.

She saved all three of Loyola Chicago's shots on goal in her collegiate debut Thursday night during the Wildcats' 2-0 win in the season opener. On Sunday night at Illinois State, she logged seven saves in a 1-0 shutout win over the Redbirds.

Northwestern is off to its first 2-0 start since 2018 and has opened up the campaign with a pair of road wins for the first time since 2012.

The 'Cats conclude their three-game season-opening road swing on Thursday night against Duke (1-0) in Durham, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on ACCNX.
