Veteran netminder completes Wildcats’ incoming class

EVANSTON, Ill. (July 31, 2025) – Josue Hangi will join the Northwestern University men's soccer program as a graduate transfer, Wildcats' head coach Russell Payne announced on Thursday.  A 6-foot-1 goalkeeper, Hangi, who completes Northwestern's incoming class, arrives in Evanston following a three-year stint at Georgia State University.

"Josue joins us as a highly experienced Division I student-athlete who will strengthen our goalkeeping core," Payne stated.

During his time with the Panthers, Hangi started in 34 of his 35 appearances and totaled eight shutouts.  This past season, he tallied four clean sheets en route to closing the year with a 1.55 goals against average. Hangi piled up a career-high 12 saves in a clash with Lipscomb on September 5.

A native of Decatur, Ga., Hangi began his collegiate career at the University of Akron, where he spent two seasons with the Zips.  He enjoyed a successful stay on the club level with the Atlanta United Academy and featured on the US Youth Soccer (USYSA) National XI Team, earning the U17 Nationals Golden Glove award in 2018.

Hangi joins a group of 13 previously announced newcomers that was ranked as the No. 13 recruiting class nationally by Top Drawer Soccer.

Following exhibition matchups against IU Indy (Aug. 9) and Northern Illinois (Aug. 15), Northwestern officially opens the 2025 season on Thursday, August 21 when it welcomes Eastern Illinois to Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
