SPARKS, Md. — Two Wildcats were named to the roster that will represent the United States in the women's lacrosse competition at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, this August 7-11. Madison Taylor (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh HS) and Izzy Scane have been named to the 12-person roster by head coach Lindsey Monday after a training camp held at USA Lacrosse headquarters last week.
The World Games, a quadrennial Olympic-style event, utilizes the sixes discipline of the sport, a fast-paced, small-sided version of lacrosse that includes just six players for each team on the field at a time, resulting in smaller roster sizes than the traditional field version of the game.
Just yesterday, both Taylor and Scane were named to the US roster for the Pan-American Lacrosse Association Women's Championship. While at Northwestern, Scane set the NCAA career record for goals with 376 from 2019-24, and last season. Taylor set the NCAA single-season goal record (109).
This edition of The World Games will feature up to 5,000 athletes competing in 34 sports and will include women's lacrosse as a medal sport for the third time. The United States won the inaugural World Games gold medal in 2017, defeating Canada 11-8 in the championship game of a full-field 10v10 format in Wroclaw, Poland. In 2022, Canada beat the U.S. 14-12 in the championship game in the sixes discipline in Birmingham, Ala.
In addition to the US, Australia, Canada, China, Czechia, Great Britain, Ireland and Japan will be competing at The World Games 2025.
The U.S. team next gathers for a staging camp in Los Angeles from Aug. 1-3 before heading to China for The World Games.
