Five ‘Cats Named USA Lacrosse All-Americans

EVANSTON, Ill. – Five Northwestern standouts earned All-America honors from USA Lacrosse for their efforts anchoring the No. 2 Wildcats' stellar season.
Junior attacker Madison Taylor and senior defender Sammy White were each named First Team All-Americans by the organization. Sixth-year defender Jane Hansen earned Second Team All-America recognition, while senior midfielder Sam Smith was a Third Team honoree and graduate goalkeeper Delaney Sweitzer drew Honorable Mention honors.
Northwestern's five USA Lacrosse All-Americans are tied with Johns Hopkins, Michigan, Princeton and Yale for the third most in the country. Only Boston College and North Carolina (eight each) had more.
Taylor, a Tewaaraton Award finalist, leads the nation in total points (125), points per game (6.94) and goals per game (4.94) while her 89 goals rank second to Boston College's Rachel Clark (91), who has played one more game than Taylor this season. In 18 games, Taylor has recorded 16 hat tricks and scored six goals or more eight times. She was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year.
White also earned First Team All-Big Ten honors after helping the Wildcats post the Big Ten's top scoring defense (8.22 goals against per game), which ranks third nationally. She leads NU with 40 groundballs and her 34 caused turnovers are the second most on the team.
Another First Team All-Big Ten selection, Hansen leads the 'Cats with 40 caused turnovers while her 32 groundballs sit second on the squad. She was named the Big Ten Tournament's Most Outstanding Player, helping hold tournament-host Maryland to one goal in the final 22:30 in an 8-7 comeback win in the title game. She has helped the 'Cats allow fewer than 10 goals in 12 of their 18 games this season, including 11 of their last 15 outings.
Smith helped the Wildcats post the nation's fifth-best draw control percentage (.642). She corralled 153 of Northwestern's 317 draw controls this season while opponents grabbed just 177 all year. Smith also chipped in 18 goals and 19 points to earn First Team All-Big Ten recognition.
A Second Team All-Big Ten performer, Sweitzer was stellar in her debut season for Northwestern, posting a 14-2 record with an 8.66 goals against average (fourth in NCAA) and .490 save percentage. She allowed eight goals or fewer in 12 of her 16 appearances.
The Wildcats begin their NCAA Tournament run on Sunday, May 11, when they host either Akron or No. 13 Michigan in the second round of the tournament on ESPN+ at 2 p.m. CT. Tickets are available HERE.
