Seven Wildcats Named IWLCA All-Region

EVANSTON, Ill. – Seven members of the No. 2 Northwestern lacrosse team received All-Region recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Friday.

Landing on the IWLCA All-West/Midwest First Team are junior Madison Taylor, seniors Sammy White, Sam Smith and Emerson Bohlig along with graduate student Jane Hansen. Graduate students Delaney Sweitzer and Niki Miles garnered Second Team All-Region honors.

With 105 goals this season, Taylor both leads the nation and is the new NCAA record holder for most goals in a season, breaking Abby Hormes' 2022 record with six goals in the NCAA quarterfinal win over Penn. The Tewaaraton Finalist, USA Lacrosse First Team All-American and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year also has a school-146 points this season, breaking Hannah Nielson's 2009 record of 142.

White is one of the anchors on a Northwestern group that boasts the nation's third-best scoring defense (8.35 goals against per game). The First Team All-Big Ten performer leads the Wildcats with 44 ground balls and is second with 38 caused turnovers and 50 draw controls.

Smith paces the 'Cats and ranks 12th in the nation with 9.32 draw controls per game. Her 177 total draw controls nearly matches how many NU's opponents have snagged all season (197). Another First Team All-Big Ten performer, Smith has chipped in 19 goals and 20 points offensively.

A Second Team All-Big Ten recipient, Bohlig garnered First Team All-Region recognition as a balanced contributor across the board. The senior midfielder ranks fourth on the team with 26 goals while also adding in 19 ground balls and 14 draw controls. She is also a vital component of the team's clearing ability (.901 clearing percentage).

Hansen earned the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player for her efforts in shutting down Maryland to the tune of seven total goals and only one in the in the final quarter and a half. A First Team All-Big Ten pick in her own right, Hansen helped the 'Cats hold their opponents under 10 goals in 11 of their last 16 games and 12 times overall this season.

In her first season in Evanston, Sweitzer earned Second Team All-Big Ten recognition for her stellar play in the crease. Her 8.77 goals against average (sixth in NCAA) represents a career-best for the graduate transfer from Syracuse. She also boasts a .482 save percentage and has allowed eight goals or fewer in seven of her last 10 contests as the Wildcats are in their sixth-straight Final Four.

Another graduate transfer excelling in Evanston is Miles, who ranks second on the Wildcats with 40 goals and 66 points. She has caught fire of late, netting 18 goals in her past six games after totaling just 22 in her first 14 contests with Northwestern.

The Wildcats are moving on to the NCAA Final Four on Friday, May 23, where they will take on Boston College in a rematch of the past two NCAA title games. The game will start at 4:30 p.m. CT and air on ESPNU.
