EVANSTON, Ill. – Rewriting the NCAA Tournament record book garnered Northwestern junior attacker Madison Taylor Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association on Tuesday. She is sharing the award with Boston College's Emma LoPinto.
Taylor scored 10 goals in the Wildcats' 15-7 victory over No. 13 Michigan on Sunday, breaking former Wildcat Selena Lasota's (9 goals) previous record for most goals in an NCAA Tournament game. She also tied former teammate Izzy Scane for most goals in any game by a Northwestern player, a fete she achieved twice, most recently on Feb. 16, 2023 against Notre Dame.
With 99 goals this season, Taylor both leads the nation and is tied with Scane's 2023 school and Big Ten Conference record for most goals in single season. She needs four goals to tie Abby Hormes' NCAA record of 103 goals, set at High Point in the 2022 season.
In addition to her goal total, Taylor leads all NCAA players with 136 points, 5.21 goals per game and 7.16 points per game. The Tewaaraton Award Finalist, USA Lacrosse First Team All-American and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year has posted 17 hat tricks in 19 games and scored at least six goals in a game nine times. Dating back to the 2024 campaign, Taylor has hat tricks in 28 of her last 30 games.
Taylor and the No. 2 Wildcats look to make their sixth-straight trip to the semifinals when they host No. 12 Penn in the NCAA Quarterfinals at Northwestern Medicine Field at Martin Stadium on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT. The game will be televised live on ESPNU. Tickets are available HERE.
