EVANSTON, Ill. – Kevin Clark, Northwestern University's Deputy Director of Athletics, has announced his retirement from collegiate athletics following a distinguished career spanning more than three decades in leadership roles across higher education and Division I athletics.
Clark will officially retire on October 31. He joined Northwestern in May of 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his time guiding programs and university operations at Temple, Indiana, and Saint Louis. During his tenure in Evanston, he has been a valued member of Northwestern's senior leadership team, contributing to strategic initiatives and supporting the student-athlete experience across all 21 varsity programs.
"We're sincerely grateful for Kevin's service to Northwestern, and the wealth of experience he has brought to our department," Combe Family Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Mark Jackson said. "His long career in college athletics reflects a genuine commitment to people and purpose. On behalf of our entire department, I congratulate Kevin on a well-earned retirement. We wish him nothing but happiness in this next chapter, and the doors to Northwestern will always be open to Kevin and his family."
Before arriving at Northwestern, Clark spent nearly a decade at Temple University, where he held several key roles, including Vice President and Director of Athletics, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and Senior Advisor to the President. His leadership guided the university through transformational projects and record achievements–both academically and athletically–while overseeing more than $300 million in capital improvements and infrastructure.
Clark's path in collegiate athletics began while serving as a staff accountant at the NCAA from 1991 to 1996. He then served as Assistant Athletic Director of Business and Finance at Saint Louis University, before moving to Indiana University in 2000. Over 11 years in Bloomington, he rose to Senior Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations, overseeing business affairs, facilities, and sport administration for several programs, including football, baseball, and women's basketball.
A Kansas City native, Clark earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Grambling State University and an MBA from Webster University. He also served 23 years in the United States Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Major.
"It's been a privilege to spend my career surrounded by incredible people who care deeply about student-athletes and the mission of higher education," Clark said. "I'm especially grateful for my time at Northwestern and for the relationships built here. As I step into retirement, I do so with great appreciation for the journey and the people who have made it so meaningful."
