Four Wildcat Student-Athletes Receive NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's Rom Brown (men's soccer), Troy Fisher (wrestling), Levi Hoogendoorn (fencing) and Andrew Martin (swimming & diving) have been recognized as NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients for the 2023-24 academic year.
The NCAA awards scholarships to 21 men and 21 women during each of the fall, winter, and spring seasons. The scholarships, worth $10,000 each, are awarded to student-athletes who intend to pursue advanced degrees in graduate or professional school. The student-athletes are evaluated on academics, athletics and community service.
A native of Had Hasharon, Israel, midfielder Rom Brown was a major piece of the Northwestern Men's Soccer program during his four years. A member of the 2019 Big Ten All-Freshman team, Brown made an appearance in all 62 games as a Wildcat (47 starts). Most recently in 2023, Brown had a career season where he would rack up 8 points and 4 goals. During the week of November 28, he would earn a spot on the College Soccer News National Team.
In December 2023, Brown graduated with a major in Biological Sciences. He will be attending Northwestern's Fienberg School of Medicine to pursue an MD.
Fisher, who earned this scholarship by being named a finalist for the NCAA Walter Byers Award, was a four-year wrestling letterman during his time at Northwestern. He competed at 174 lbs. during his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons and competed at 184 lbs. as a senior. In his sophomore and junior campaigns, he was seeded at the NCAA Championships. As a sophomore, Fisher, who hails from Garden Plain, Kansas, would finish fourth at the Big Ten Championships as well as posting a fifth-place finish in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational as a junior.
In addition to his success on the mat, Fisher excelled in the classroom. He was inducted into the Science National Honor Society, as well as being named an Academic All-District selection by the College Sports Communications (CDC). He completed his undergraduate degree in June 2023, with a major in Biological Sciences. In March 2024, Fisher received a graduate certificate in Global Help Leadership and is planning to pursue a PhD/MD dual degree.
Eden Prairie, Minnesota native Levi Hoogendorn had an outstanding career as a Wildcat fencer. As a junior, she helped lead the Wildcat sabre team to a runner-up finish in the CFCC Championships with a perfect 8-0 record. Her impressive 52-28 junior year record would help earn her a First Team All-Central Fencing Conference (CCFC) selection. She would follow up with a successful senior campaign, where she would make her first appearance at the NCAA Fencing Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
In the classroom, Hoogendorn has received a plethora of academic accolades. She was selected to the United States Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) All-Academic Team and tallied four selections to the USA Fencing All-Academic first team. Hoogendorn graduated this past June with a major in Integrated Science, Material Science and Mathematics. Her success within her respective field of study helped her receive the 2023 Barry Goldwater Scholarship, an honor that supports Northwestern students who intend to pursue careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering. Hoogendorn will be attending Stanford University for a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering.
Martin was a former Big East Swimmer of The Year at Xavier, and later transferred to Northwestern as a grad student. A six-time Big East men's freestyle champion, Martin was known for his endurance in distance events. In his lone season as a Wildcat, he earned three top five finishes at the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships. He earned a spot in the NCAA Championships and showcased his talent in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle.
The Middleton, Wisconsin native graduated from Xavier in May 2023 with a major in Business Administration and Marketing. Martin is attending Northwestern to pursue a M.S. in Integrated Marketing Communications. He is anticipated to graduate in December 2024.
All student-athletes who have completed their undergraduate degree from an NCAA member school are eligible to be nominated for this scholarship.
