Seven Northwestern teams earn perfect scores, the NCAA announced Tuesday
EVANSTON, Ill. – Seven Northwestern teams earned a perfect Academic Progress Rate (APR) score in the latest data released Tuesday by the NCAA.
Northwestern field hockey, women's golf, lacrosse, women's tennis, volleyball, men's golf and men's tennis all posted unblemished scores of 1000 in the current data. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from 2019-20 through the 2022-23 academic years.
Women's golf has produced a perfect score of 1000 for 18 consecutive years. Additional programs that have earned perfect scores in consecutive seasons include volleyball (13 consecutive), field hockey (11 consecutive), lacrosse (6 consecutive), men's tennis (4 consecutive), women's tennis (3 consecutive), and men's golf (2 consecutive).
Sixteen of Northwestern's 19 varsity programs earned APR scores that either increased or remained the same compared to last year.
"Combined with our 98% Graduation Success Rate, this latest APR data is a perfect bookend to what was an incredible year for Northwestern Athletics," said Combe Family Vice President of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Derrick Gragg. "What we achieved in both academics and athletics, including seven conference championships – a record number – equates to a banner year for the department. We are extremely proud of what our student-athletes, coaches and support staff accomplished this year."
For the second consecutive year, the Wildcats football program tallied a score of 996, ranking second in the Big Ten (Ohio State) and tied for third among all FBS institutions (Ohio State and Alabama).
The release of APR data is the latest highlight in a year of academic distinction for Wildcats student-athletes. Northwestern's 98% NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is tied for the top mark across all Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) institutions and led the Big Ten Conference for the 19th consecutive year, and 'Cats have earned an impressive 189 Academic All-Big Ten honors through the fall and winter seasons of the 2023-24 academic year.
