EVANSTON, Ill. – The David G. Kabiller NU for Life Program announced on Tuesday six student-athletes as the 2023 recipients of the Immersion, Mentorship and Actualization Program (I-MAP) Award.
The 2023 I-MAP Award winners are Donnie Gray (Football), Fiona Lenth (Cross Country), Mercy Ademusayo (Women's Basketball), Bennett Markinson (Baseball), Ayana Lindsey (Softball) and Lane Herbert (Field Hockey). This year's I-MAP class includes six sophomore student-athletes from six different teams.
"It is a great privilege and responsibility to be able to assist our student-athletes with these life changing experiences," said Ahmad Boyd, Assistant Director for Career Enhancement & Employer Relations of the David G. Kabiller NU for Life Program. "It's truly a one a of a kind opportunity."
Sponsored by the David G. Kabiller NU for Life program, I-MAP is a week-long industry immersion program, designed to help student-athletes work with mentors and make industry contacts. Each student-athlete will be paired with a mentor in their field of interest in the industry and allow them to gain first-hand experience while expanding their personal and professional network during the immersion program. The experience can happen anywhere in the world, features flexible dates, and is set-up through Kabiller NU for Life with all expenses paid.
Learn more about the 2023 I-MAP recipients below:
Donnie Gray (Football | New Haven, Connecticut): Interested in a career where he can tell stories through sports marketing for a company like Under Armour. He wants his story telling to inspire generations, and people across the world. Looking to spend a week at the UA headquarters in Baltimore and connect with their entire PR/Marketing team.
Fiona Lenth (Cross Country | Portland, Oregon): Interested in sustainable development, as well as developing connections with people currently in the industry and determining whether working through a corporate base would allow for the type of systemic change that is necessary for creating a more sustainable world.
Mercy Ademusayo (Women's Basketball | Ode Irele, Nigeria): Interested in social work and becoming an international social worker, or one who supports the welfare of children. Her experience will include visiting social services departments to connect with professionals, learn about their work, and understand the impact of child support services.
Bennett Markinson (Baseball | Tarzana, California): Interested in finance and global markets. He plans to visit New York City after baseball season to connect with alums and professionals at Goldman Sachs and learn more about global markets/investment banking to determine if this is the correct path for him.
Ayana Lindsey (Softball | Iowa City, Iowa): Interested in a career in professional sports, specifically baseball. Lindsey plans to spend a few days with the Cubs at both their Chicago and Mesa, Arizona locations to connect with staff members and learn more about the operations of the club. In addition, she is also considering visiting and connecting with other sports teams.
Lane Herbert (Field Hockey | Celina, Texas): Interested in working with a non-profit organization or healthcare clinic mentored by healthcare professionals dedicated to delivering care to communities with limited or differential access to care. There organizations–both globally and within the United States–would reach communities with affordable healthcare: organizations such as Project Horseshoe Farms in California and Alabama, within the United States or globally in the Peace Corps.
I-MAP was designed in 2017 with the generous support of Kellogg School of Management alumnus, Michael Price, to foster connections between current student-athletes, Northwestern alumni, and supporters of Northwestern Athletics around the world through the help of the David G. Kabiller NU for Life Program. These resources are available to student-athletes the moment they arrive on campus and remain with them as they navigate their careers. Now in its sixth year of programming, the I-MAP experience continues to foster transformational experience for NU student-athletes to help them prepare for life-long careers.
