
‘Cats Open Fall Slate At Notre Dame Invitational, ITA All-American Championships

Northwestern back in action at ITA Midwest Regional Championships, October 12-16
NOTRE DAME, Ind. (October 4, 2023) – Northwestern women's tennis raised the curtain on its 2023-24 schedule this past weekend, competing at the Notre Dame Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Cary, N.C.
During their stay in the Hoosier State, the 'Cats battled squads from Kentucky, Columbia, and Harvard. In Friday's clash with the Wildcats, the pairing of Kiley Rabjohns and Elisa Van Meeteren scored a 6-3 doubles victory. Rabjohns (6-1, 6-2), Maria Shusharina (6-7, 6-1, 6-4), and Sydney Pratt (6-4, 6-2) all went on to pick up victories in singles action.
Rabjohns was victorious again in doubles on Saturday against Columbia, joining forces with Neena Feldman for a 6-2 triumph. Shusharina (2-6, 5-2 retired) and Pratt (5-7, 6-3, 7-5) move dot 2-0 on the weekend with singles wins, while Autumn Rabjohns also picked up her first win as a Wildcat by a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 final.
Northwestern wrapped up its stay at Notre Dame by battling Harvard on Sunday morning. The 'Cats won two of the day's three singles tilts, with the pairings of Shusharina and Britany Lau and Van Meeteren and Pratt each recording 6-3 wins. In singles, Pratt wrapped up an unblemished weekend with a win in straight sets (7-5, 6-3), while Lau (6-2, 0-6, 10-3) and Jennifer Riester (3-6, 6-2, 10-5) both pulled out victories in tiebreakers. Autumn Rabjohns also saw action in singles play on Sunday, prevailing in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) against DePaul's Eva Goncharov.
The pairing of Christina Hand and Justine Leong represented Northwestern at the ITA All-American Championships. Hand posted a dominant showing in her first matchup of singles pre-qualifying action, cruising to a win in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) over Syracuse's Polina Kozyreva.
Leong bounced back from an opening-round setback in singles play with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory against Clemson's Eleni Louka, who checked in at No. 86 nationally in the first ITA Preseason Rankings.
