No. 2 Northwestern Bested in Regular Season Finale

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The No. 2 Northwestern women's lacrosse team dropped its final regular season game of the year at No. 8 Maryland, 15-9.
Jill Girardi led the way for the Wildcats (13-3, 5-1 B1G) with three goals and seven draw controls. Erin Coykendall followed with a goal and an assist.
Maryland (14-1, 5-0 B1G) started strong, but goals from Lauren Gilbert, Carleigh Mahoney and Samantha Smith kept things level at three in the first quarter. However, a seventeen minute scoring drought from the end of the second quarter through the end of the third put the Wildcats behind, 14-6.
Girardi posted two goals in the final quarter to complete her hat trick but, but could not overcome the Terrapins lead.
After a bye week, Northwestern will return to the field for the Big Ten Tournament hosted by Rutgers, with the quarterfinal round beginning on May 6.
