No. 3 'Cats Crush Aztecs, Win Eighth Straight

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern lacrosse shined in all facets in its first outing at Lanny and Sharon Martin Stadium this season, rolling San Diego State 20-8. The Wildcats extended their win streak to a season-best eight games.

11 different Wildcats combined for Northwestern's (12-2) 20 scores. Lauren Gilbert and Jill Girardi led the charge with four goals each. Elle Hansen, Leah Holmes and Samantha Smith followed with two goals apiece.

Once again, Northwestern dominated at the circle, collecting 20 draws to just nine from the Aztecs. Samantha White posted a career-high five draw controls for the 'Cats.

Carleigh Mahoney got things started for NU with a quick goal after the first draw. Northwestern soon found itself on a 5-0 scoring run, powered by two goals apiece from Gilbert and Girardi. 

The Wildcats leaned on their speed to extend their comfortable 6-2 lead in the second quarter with a 4-0 run. Emerson Bohlig netted her first career goal off a free position opportunity to wrap up scoring for the 'Cats in the first half.

With a 16-6 lead and a running clock to start the second half, Northwestern outscored SDSU 4-2 in the half.

Deanna Balsama led San Diego State (5-7) with three points (2g, 1a).

Northwestern will be back by the lake for Senior Day against Johns Hopkins on for the regular season home final. The opening draw is set for noon CT on Saturday, April 16.
