EVANSTON, Illinois - Combe Family Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Dr. Derrick Gragg has retained renowned Title IX counsel and educator Marissa Pollick as a special consultant to Northwestern's Department of Athletics & Recreation. Pollick will partner with the University's Office of Equity to advise Gragg on Title IX issues across the department, including annual compliance reviews and training seminars for Wildcats student-athletes, coaches and staff, and the implementation of a campus-wide "Listening Tour" to obtain input from internal and external constituent groups on the current environment.
"The day I accepted this position, I made it clear my absolute priorities are to run a team that competes for championships, does so within the rules, graduates its student-athletes, and is free of harassment and discrimination of any kind," said Gragg. "I had the privilege to work with Marissa previously during my tenure at Eastern Michigan University. Not only is she highly regarded in her field but her complete portfolio of experience and accomplishments make her the ideal person to assist us with this important, proactive effort to ensure a Department-wide culture that reflects our values for years to come."
Since 2008, Pollick has consulted with universities on Title IX compliance, athletic compliance audits, gender policy and reviews, diversity training and education as well as sexual assault and coach abuse education. In addition to her work with Eastern Michigan, Pollick has represented numerous Division I athletic programs within the Power Five, Group of Five, and Ivy League conferences. She also is a member of the sport management faculty at the University of Michigan where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Sports Law and Ethics, Sport and Public Policy and, Race and Cultural Issues in Sports. Pollick has authored numerous articles and publications including, most recently, a college textbook titled "Introduction to Legal and Ethical Issues in Sport" (scheduled for publication later this month).
A former student athlete at Michigan, Pollick is past President of the University of Michigan "M" Club (symbolic of the school's Letterwinners) and was the first woman President in the history of the Club.
