Community Letter Regarding Home Opener

Dear Wildcats Community Members: We write to make you aware of an announcement by the Big Ten Conference regarding several 2021 Northwestern football game times and dates at Ryan Field.
The Wildcats season opener against Michigan State has been moved to Friday, September 3, 2021, at 8 p.m. CT. The full 2021 football schedule can be found on NUSports.com. As with all scheduling decisions, the date and time for each contest is determined by the Big Ten Conference and not Northwestern University.
Though there are unique challenges to executing a weekday game in our community, we successfully did so just two seasons ago on a Friday evening against Ohio State thanks to extensive communication and collaboration with the Evanston Police Department, Northwestern Police Department, City of Evanston and other key stakeholders across our City. We can assure you that planning for this contest will be conducted with the same level of diligence and care for our community.
Effective communication is going to be critical in supporting everyone's navigation of the unusual circumstances presented by a weekday event at Ryan Field. We value transparency and are firmly committed to keeping these lines of communication open throughout the planning process. If there is anything to be done in advance that can mitigate challenges and disruptions, please let us know.
