
Wildcats Claim Share of CCFC Regular Season Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a 4-0 performance on Saturday, Northwestern clinched a share of the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championship for the regular season.
The Wildcats went 2-0 against Denison and 2-0 against hosts Ohio State. While this year was not a traditional iteration of the CCFC, the Wildcats now have their third conference crown in head coach Zach Moss' tenure.
"I am grateful for all the hard work our seniors have put in and I'm glad that we could end our season on a high note with a sweep of our competition," Moss continued. "Our focus now shifts to preparation for NCAA Championships in two weeks. We have a real chance to finish in the top five there, so I'm excited to get our team prepared to compete there and to learning which of our team members will be selected."
The Wildcats finished the regular season with a 17-8 record. The 'Cats earned two massive wins over their rivals Ohio State by scores of 18-9 in round one and 16-11 in round two. The team powered past Denison with a 27-0 win in round one and a 25-2 decision in round two.
All but one of the Wildcats that fenced finished with a positive record. Julia Falinska impressed in epee with two 3-0 sweeps of Ohio State to give her a 6-0 record.
Robyn Song led the sabre squad with an 8-1 record on the day while Levi Hoogendoorn and Jacqueline Hua finished 7-2.
Julia Shalansky led the foil squad with a 6-1 effort on the day while senior Justine Banbury tallied six bout wins as well.
