Stellar Pitching Leads Northwestern to 6-1 Win Over UIC

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern evened up the season series with UIC on Tuesday afternoon, extinguishing the Flames, 6-1, at Miller Park.
Every Wildcat who played in the game got a hit. Leo Kaplan went 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored.
Alex Erro went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a walk, while Willie Bourbon went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Rookie southpaw Parker Hanks was effective in the start for Northwestern, tossing 4.0-innings of one-run baseball. The Missouri native only walked one but allowed seven hits.
The Wildcats struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning on four-consecutive singles. Alex Erro and Shawn Goosenberg both came across home plate for the Wildcats.
UIC would strike in the third inning for one run coming home on a Ryan Hampe sacrifice fly. The Flames looked poised to score more in the fourth inning but a clutch double play induced by Hanks got NU out of the inning.
NU extended its lead in the seventh inning with a sacrifice fly by Willie Bourbon.
Chicago's Big Ten Team again added insurance runs off the bat of Kaplan, who smacked a two-run shot — his eighth-career home run — over the left field fence. The exit velocity of the tater was clocked at a blistering 109.2 miles per hour.
The Wildcats got extremely promising bullpen work in the victory.
Junior Josh Levy tossed 2.0-scoreless frames in relief for Northwestern. The Atlanta, Georgia, native extended a tremendous stretch on the mound, allowing no hits over his last six outings, totaling 7.2 innings pitched.
Tommy D'Alise (1.0 IP), Sam Lawrence (1.0 IP), and Nick Paciorek (1.0 IP) all added valuable frames for Northwestern.
Northwestern plays a three-game set against Michigan State this weekend. Friday's lidlifter is set for 5:35 p.m. CT.
