Wildcats Knock Off Nebraska 5-2 For Second B1G Win of the Weekend

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern downed Nebraska 5-2 for its second home Big Ten win of the weekend on Sunday at the Combe Tennis Center.

The #B1GCats improved to 12-9 on the season and 3-2 in conference.

The Wildcats started off the match strong in doubles play. The No. 3 duo of Ben Vandixhorn and Simen Bratholm dominated Jon Meyer and Isaac Nortey in a 6-1 victory.

Antonioni Fasano and Trice Pickens took care of business at No. 2, winning 6-2 over Micah Klousia and Victor Moreno Lazano to grant Northwestern a 1-0 lead. Dominik Stary and Chris Ephron lead on the doubles first court 5-3 before going unfinished.


The Wildcats kept their momentum going in as Jason Seidman claimed the first singles point of the day at No. 6, beating Nebraska's Chris Dean in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0.

Soon after, Chris Ephron beat William Gleason in straight sets, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3, putting the 'Cats up 3-0 and one point away from victory.

At No. 4 singles, Simen Bratholm battled, but fell to Victor Moreno in two sets with the second going to a tiebreak, 6-2, 7-6, giving Nebraska a point.

But in the No. 5 spot, Trice Pickens stopped the Nebraska comeback in its tracks as he defeated Isaac Nortey in two sets, 6-2, 7-6, to clinch the victory for the 'Cats.

Antonioni Fasano went on to make short work of Micah Klousia in the No. 2 position, winning 6-4, 6-4. In the No. 1 spot, Dominik Stary battled with Toby Boyer, pushing the match the three sets, but eventually fell 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (2). The 'Cats led the entire way and won 5-2.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action on Friday April, 5 as they take on the Wolverines of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m.
