
‘Cats Fall to Oklahoma State, Gear Up for Weekend Triple-Header

Evanston, Ill. - Northwestern fell to Oklahoma State, 4-2, Thursday night at the Combe Tennis Center in its first of four matches on the weekend.
Oklahoma State narrowly claimed the doubles point, edging out the Wildcats, 6-3, at No. 2, needing a tiebreaker to get the 7-6 win at No. 3. The 'Cats No. 1 team of Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm was headed to a tiebreaker with the match tied 6-6 after the Cowboys secured the point.
After Mathieu Scaglia put Oklahoma State up 2-0 with a win at No. 3, first-year Trice Pickens secured the 'Cats first point with a straight-sets victory (7-5, 6-4) at No. 5. The Cowboys responded when Matej Vocel secured their third point, winning at No. 1 after Brookes forced a third set.
Junior Dominik Stary gave Northwestern its second point of the night, tying the match at two a piece. After losing his first set, he made quick work in sets two and three, winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 to secure the point.
Senior Jason Seidman bounced back from a 6-3, 3-0 deficit to force a tiebreaker in the second set at No. 6. After trading points back and forth, Oklahoma State's Emile Hudd wound up on top (6-3, 7-6) to clinch the match for the Cowboys.
Bratholm battled at No. 4 for the Wildcats, holding a 5-4 lead in the third set when Oklahoma State clinched the match.
Chicago's Big Ten Team returns to the court for three matches this weekend at the Combe Tennis Center. Northwestern will face Harvard on Saturday at noon, Purdue in its Big Ten opener Sunday at noon and Chicago State at H-F Racquet and Fitness Sunday night at 6:30.
