Northwestern Drops Season's First Outdoor Match

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern hosted its first outdoor match of the season Friday afternoon, facing off against Big Ten foe Minnesota at the Vandy Christe Tennis Center.
In doubles play, NU sophomore Dominik Stary and junior Ben Vandixhorn battled hard at No. 1 after Minnesota duo Feliz Corwin and Josip Krstanovic initially led 5-2. The 'Cats brought the score back to 4-5 before Minnesota clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, leaving the contest at No. 1 unfinished.
The Wildcats continued to fight in the singles matches, hanging tough with the Gophers early before the visitors eventually pulled away.
Northwestern junior Jason Seidman won his first set, 7-5, over UM's Eli Ogilvy. Seidman was close to taking the match, but dropped a close tiebreaker in the second set before Ogilvy went on to win the third. The Gophers took the rest of the singles points as well to finish with a 7-0 victory.
Chicago's Big Ten Team finishes off the conference slate this Sunday when it hosts Wisconsin at noon in a match that will also be the 2018 regular season finale for the 'Cats.
