EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern won a decisive victory over Nebraska on Friday night, shutting out the Cornhuskers, 4-0, at the Combe Tennis Center.

The 21st-ranked Wildcats improved to 16-7 (4-2) with the win.

Northwestern took the doubles point fairly handily with wins at Nos. 3 and 1. Chris Ephron and Michael Lorenzini made quick work of their opponents at the No. 3 position with a 6-1 win to improve to 11-6 on the year. Sam Shropshire and Konrad Zieba followed that up with a 6-4 win at No. 1 to clinch the match's first point.

The 'Cats then rolled through the early part of singles, easily picking up the three wins necessary to claim the team victory.

Zieba got things started at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Toby Boyer. The No. 50-ranked Zieba improved to 17-7 overall this season and 15-4 in duals. He was followed in short order by freshman Dominik Starý at No. 3, who beat Tomislav Antoljak, 6-4, 6-2. Starý is 17-8 in his first collegiate season.

Another true freshman, Brenden Volk, picked up the fourth team point at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over David Samardzija. It was the first career Big Ten win for Volk.

The teams decided to play the rest of the matches out from there. Jason Seidman got another straight sets win for the 'Cats at No. 5, beaing Chris Dean, 6-1, 6-3. Seidman is 18-7 in his first year as a starter. Ben Vandixhorn followed suit with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Micah Klousia at No. 4.

Sam Shropshire, playing in his first match since March 3, finished off the Huskers with a three-set win over Dylan Bednarczyk at No. 2. After splitting the first two frames, the match went to a third set superset, where Shropshire prevailed 10-7.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action on Sunday when Iowa comes to town for a noon match. That one is set to be played outside at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center, weather permitting.
