EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern cruised past Purdue on Friday night at the Combe Tennis Center in the team's first competition in nearly three weeks.

The Wildcats swept the visiting Boilermakers, 4-0, to improve to 13-6 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten. NU has now won two matches in a row and three of its last four.

The 'Cats have success when they win the doubles point, and they did so on Friday. With Sam Shropshire not in the lineup, Ben Vandixhorn stepped up to No. 2 doubles to partner with Konrad Zieba, and the duo secured a 6-3 decision. Michael Lorenzini and Chris Ephron then won a dramatic 7-5 victory at No. 3 to clinch the match's first point for Northwestern.

Singles got off to a similar start with the Wildcats taking the first set at all six positions. It was a race to the finish from there with the overall match ending after the fourth point.

Dominik Starý made it look easy at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stephan Koenigsfest. Starý is 3-1 at the No. 3 spot during his true freshman season. Strong Kirchheimer also made quick work of his opponent at No. 1, beating Ricky Medinilla, 6-3, 6-0 to put Northwestern a point away.

Jason Seidman had the honors at No. 5, securing a 6-4, 6-3 win over Athell Bennett.

Konrad Zieba, Ben Vandixhorn and Michael Lorenzini all led in their respective matches when they went unfinished.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is right back it on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT match at Indiana.
