CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The first round match at the ITA National Indoors came down to the wire between two of the best teams in the country, and No. 12 Oklahoma State was able to eke out a 4-2 win over No. 7 Northwestern on Friday morning at the Boar's Head Sports Club.

With Oklahoma State holding a 3-2 lead, Northwestern (10-1) led in the third set of both of the remaining matches. No. 25 Strong Kirchheimer was up 4-2 at No. 1 over No. 32 Julian Cash, but Cash rattled off four straight points to win and clinch the match for the Cowboys. Sam Shropshire led 3-0 at No. 3 at the time, but his match went unfinished.

Northwestern dropped a closely contested doubles point, the first time the 'Cats have not won the match's first point all year. Kirchheimer and Dominik Starý helped the Wildcats rebound from a loss at the No. 3 spot with a 6-3 win over the No. 50 ranked doubles team in the country. That duo is now 9-1 on the season and has won nine straight matches. But Oklahoma State pulled out a 6-4 win at No. 1 from their fifth-ranked duo to grab the team point.

Sophomore Jason Seidman then rattled off a straight sets win at No. 6 to tie the match at one. Seidman beat No. 65 Jurence Mendoza for his first ever win over a ranked opponent, and he improved to 12-4 on the year in the process.

The Cowboys won the next two singles matches at spots 4 and 5 to take a 3-1 lead, and the match came down to the top three guys for both teams.

Konrad Zieba continued his hot streak, winning his ninth match in a row to improve to 11-4. He beat No. 48 Lukas Finzelberg at No. 2 in straight sets.

Shropshire was on the verge of another win, leading the second set tiebreak 5-2, but Arjun Kadhe came back to win it 9-7 and force the unfinished third set.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is right back at it tomorrow as the ITA National Indoors continue. The Wildcats will take on No. 14 seed Oklahoma at 8 a.m.

Northwestern and Oklahoma State meet again in Round Two next weekend in Evanston at the Combe Tennis Center. That match is scheduled for noon on Sunday, Feb. 26.
